Frequently Asked Questions

Can my loved one be collected from home?

The answer is yes, but be aware that your local doctor will need to complete relevant certificates and cremation paperwork. Therefore, it is recommended a local funeral director attends in case the doctor needs to subsequently visit the funeral home. The doctor usually has to give permission for the funeral director to be allowed to effect the transfer from home. Please call us for further advice if required.

What happens if the Coroner gets involved?

Sometimes H.M. Coroner requests an inquiry into the cause of death or the circumstances. This is often normal and straightforward. We would liaise with the Coroner to bring your loved one into our care as soon as possible. The Coroner’s Office usually keeps you up to date with proceedings, and informs us when we are allowed to make further arrangements.

What areas do we cover?

We cover Greater Manchester. However, we can cover further afield for an additional cost.

When do I have to make payment?

As this is a low cost, fixed price option, we require payment in advance of the cremation. All service fees and disbursements must be received in full. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, credit or debit card, or by direct bank transfer.

Do you offer a Traditional Funeral Service?

A traditional service can be provided by our parent company, Pepperdine Barrett Family Funeral Directors. Please visit www.pepperdinebarrett.co.uk

Are we allowed to come to see our loved one in your funeral home?

Sorry, but this forms part of a traditional funeral package, and is not available as part of our Direct Cremation Service. However, you may still be allowed to visit a hospital Chapel of Rest where available.

When and where does the cremation take place?

The date, time and place of cremation is entirely at our discretion. This is based on a low cost option available locally. Please see our supplementary information guide for further information as we take advantage of low cremation charges at certain available times. These arrangements are solely at our discretion and our choosing, and this is how we can keep our low cost options available.

What happens to the ashes?

The low cost options are:-
• The ashes are scattered on your behalf at the crematorium
• The ashes can be placed in a simple container, and you can either collect them from the crematorium or our office. We can hand deliver locally for an additional fee if you prefer.

What other costs are possible?

Doctor’s fees are payable when the Coroner is not involved. These rates change periodically.

It is sometimes necessary to provide a coffin for someone who may be considered obese. Where these factors are present, we may need to use a larger than average coffin, additional staff, or even use a different crematorium able to accept an extra large coffin. All these factors will almost certainly result in additional fees and costs. In view of this, we reserve the right to decline or withdraw our services, especially based on the low cost direct cremation service option.

More details on additional costs and options are available. Please refer to our additional options price list.
